JCHA phone scam

Beware of Scam Targeting Landlords

Some of our Section 8 landlords have reported receiving a call from someone claiming to be from the Jefferson County Housing Authority and threatening to remove them as a landlord from the Section 8 program unless they pay a small fee with their credit card for some type of test.  The call is even coming from a number that appears to be a Housing Authority number.

This is a scam. The Housing Authority does not require landlords in the Section 8 program to take a test, and the Housing Authority would never ask for credit card information. Landlords who have given the caller their credit card information may have had unauthorized charges levied on their credit cards.

Officials in other housing authorities have reported similar scams.

If you are contacted by someone claiming to be calling from the Jefferson County Housing Authority and requesting payment by credit card, DO NOT provide them the information. Instead, get their name and telephone number and contact us at 205-849-0123.
